Bohemian TeePee

Public service announcement; The sun is out in Manchester and has been for the past 24 hours. Everyone outside, quick!

This weekend it was the perfect chance to test drive a craft project that I’ve finally managed to finish. A TeePee for the girls.

I have a nasty habit of starting projects and then not finishing them (just ask my husband) but often life gets in the way of creative projects and they get pushed down the priority list.

After recently having a bit of a declutter and going through a lot of my craft and sewing supplies, I came across a bunch of UFO’s (UnFinished Objects) and this TeePee was the top of my list to finish.

The tutorial I found the best to work from is by The DIY Mommy, it is really easy to follow and simple to size up or down. I had to do a bit of Maths (yey for my Maths GCSE!) and draw a couple of diagrams. I made mine a bit bigger to account for the fact both of my girls would be playing in it.

The floral fabric is Sanderson (I know- a Sanderson TeePee!) and was previously a pair of curtains I’d picked up on eBay for about £20. The pieces from the curtains are lined too so are quite a substantial thickness.

I didnt quite have enough of the Sanderson fabric to complete the whole TeePee though, so the back panel is a vintage cotton I had in my stash.

I picked up the dowels from B&Q for £15 so the whole thing cost around £35 to make. These TeePee’s sell for anything from £60-£150 in the shops so I’m rather pleased! *smug face*

The actual sewing involved is mostly just a lot of straight lines, so after reacquainting myself with my sewing machine this didn’t take long at all. You just have to manage the amount of fabric.

The girls are thrilled with their TeePee and have been camped out inside most of the weekend. I totally get TeePee’s now and would love to have an adult sized one, wouldn’t that be amazing?

This is fab, I want one! Who needs a country cottage eh? A Sanderson teepee will do just as well. Lucky I don’t have kids, they’d soon be elbowed right out of the way. My teepee! MINE!
