New in town- Rosylee Tearooms, Northern Quarter

Over the Bank Holiday Weekend we popped into Manchester’s Northern Quarter and to a very classy new tearooms that has just opened up on Stevenson Square, our editor is feeling particularly bitter-sweet about this as she used to live in the building next door…

Housed in a former dance wear shop above Hula Tiki Bar, and perhaps with the same management as Hula (we recognised a couple of faces from the basement bar) this is a really beautiful place. It has a feeling of calm sophistication and a touch of a French feel about the décor with crisp black and white tiles, stunning lighting fixtures hanging from the ceiling with ivy and other clambering plants giving an almost Mediterranean holiday feel.

We went in on Saturday afternoon and there was a live pianist which added to the atmosphere. Service is with a genuine smile. You can see the menu here on Rosylee’s website it’s much more extensive than most tearooms- meaning its definitely not just tea and cake- much more of a bistro style of food.

We were on a tight schedule so opted for a bowl of chunky chips to share and a pot of Earl Grey. We’d love to have stayed longer though and will be sure to pay it another visit soon.
