Hallway Floor Inspiration

Hallways, entryways; or what whatever you like to call the space on leaving or coming home, its a space that is high traffic but usually isn’t somewhere we spend a lot of time.

It’s exactly because not a lot of time is spent here, that the hallway often is neglected. Becoming a dumping ground for shoes, coats, bags, deliveries, laundry waiting to be put away, the list goes on.

The thing is, I think the hallway/entry is a really important space. It sets the tone for the rest of the house,

Our hallway has some wonderful period features, we haven’t really made the most of all them as yet. We have a brilliant cubby hole storage piece which really works to keep things off the floor. We have a picture rail that is actually more like a mini shelf; running around the top of the room. It’s crying out for some plants up there to bring some greenery and life to the space. There is some beautiful stained glass, and yes our stairs and staircase need sorting out too!

The floor is varnished floorboards, which reflects a yellowish tinge to the white walls. I’m pretty sure the floorboards are pine (or another softwood) and whether they are original or not, they’ve taken a real battering.

So we were in the market for something hard-wearing and something that would give our hallway the WOW factor. We probably could get it sanded and treated, but it’s the long lasting and hard-wearing aspect that we are focusing on, as it’s such a high traffic area.

My inspiration is the beautiful tiled look that many period properties have. Something monochrome that would have the crisp white that our dark hallway needs to lift it.

We’ve decided to go for the brand new pattern from Harvey Maria called Check. It’s another design by┬átextiles designer Neisha Crosland. Inspired by period architecture this feel like the perfect solution to our hallway situation.

I’m collaborating with Harvey Maria on this floor makeover. If you follow me on Instagram you’ll have had a behind the scenes look at this being laid. I cant wait to share it with you!

Can you guess which colour we picked?

I would *love* to have a cool tiled entranceway! In reality, I have a poky hall which gets very little light as I’m in a fourth floor flat.. oh well. Look forward to seeing what you do to yours hun x

I’m planning a hallway makeover too. You’re right about it setting the tone for the rest of the house and I don’t like the tone mine sets. It’s narrow, dark and cluttered. I’m excited to see how your new floor transforms your space though. It will look mighty fine with this beautiful pattern.

That flooring will look amazing! Think you might go for the dark one? But I can’t wait to see it all finished. What will you do with your stairs? Ours are naked too at the moment and have been for ages, as I can’t decide what to do!

Ah yes the stairs!! What a big job they are!! We want to strip it back to the wood, but will also be pricing up the cost of replacing the whole thing!

I made so many Pinterest boards on tiles, we went for fired earth in the end but just for bathrooms, I don’t think we could afford it for a big hallway! Can’t wait to see what you go for!
