Once upon a time there was a girl who had so many dresses in her wardrobe, she didn’t know what to do with them.
This was me, a penchant for a vintage silhouette or a novelty print. Lo and behold, a full wardrobe that no longer fitted my lifestyle.
After reading about capsule wardrobes, I realised it was something I needed to sort, for my own piece of mind. Having a clear-out is extremely cathartic, because you end up feeling physically and mentally lighter.

Now, when when I look at buying clothing, I try to figure out how much wear I will get from it. I also consider how many things it would go with that I already own, and how well made it is.
When Two For Joy got in touch and wanted to work with me, I was careful to still apply the same thought process. It’s great working with brands, but it had to fit with my new outlook on a carefully curated and considered closet.
As it turns out their ethos is rather similar, and I’d even say comparatively (to a lot of other clothing labels) refreshing.
Two for Joy want to create products that you will wear time and time again. The opposite of fast, disposable fashion. Their focus is sustainable, fairly priced essentials; so I was happy to receive this maxi dress featured.
This is the Any Way Maxi Dress and as the name suggests, there are multiple ways of wearing it. You might’ve seen on my Instagram Stories I demo’d some different ways.
For a daytime look I tied the straps in an asymmetrical way and kept the ends long and flowing, creating a relaxed style. The strappy effect is heightened by the fact I’ve a regular strapped black bra on, which I think adds to the dressed down, rock ‘n’ roll, easy going overall feel of this look.
A long black dress is always incredibly dramatic. To dress it down futher I added my SuperGa trainers and my denim jacket.
What struck me whilst wearing this dress was the drape and the weight of the fabric really flattered. It didn’t feel cumbersome. It’s heavy enough not to be wispy or see through, but light enough so you can easily move around. It was an extremely comfortable dress to wear.
I can see myself reaching for this maxi dress a lot in the future. I rather fancy wearing it for the evening next. It would go from day to night so easily!
What items of clothing do you find yourself wearing again and again?
I would love your input
