Bohemian Garden Floral Inspiration

Hi lovelies!

You might’ve seen on my Instagram Stories (follow me here) this week that we are having some work done in the garden. The work is structural but I wanted to share my floral inspo as I’ve so many shots on my phone of beautiful flowers.

Once the work is done it will need flowers to pretty it up right? I previously shared our garden plans here if you want to have a look at the kind of thing we are doing.

So here are some floral shots for you. Any favourites?

You see I like my gardens a little wild, a little overgrown. I’m not one for a perfectly manicured outside space. My parents garden is a mix of the two; a little wild, but still very organised. These poppies are just beautiful, they’ve been grown from seeds and are incredibly vibrant. They’ve got that wildness that I love too.

I do love roses, these two I spotted whilst out and about. The top one was in Didsbury and the other is in Pannett Park, Whitby.

I actually bought a rose for myself last year and it’s bloomed for the first time this year. Its a Wollerton Old Hall, by David Austen Roses. I chose it because it’s supposed to be repeat flowering, with a beautiful heady rose scent and hardy/healthy for a rose.

Here’s the first bloom! I was a proud plant mama that day 😉

Another plant I love is the Rhododendron, there’s so many different types! I’d love a couple of these in the garden at some point.

Here’s a couple I spotted recently; floral inspiration in Berlin, and Bruntwood Park in Cheadle.

I do love hydrangeas too, mine doesn’t seem to want to flower this year though!? Not sure what is going on.

Do you have a garden? Or a favourite outside space?

What is your floral inspiration? Have you tried growing favoured flowers?

  1. I do love the slightly ‘wild’ look myself although my other half likes it manicured so I’ve had to compromise a little bit in the style of our garden! Love your flower shots and all the pain will be worthwhile. It took us years to get our garden to some kind of state where I’m actually really happy with it but it’s just one of those things that takes patience (which I have very little of!). Good luck with all the work! xxx

    1. Ah thanks Kimberly! It’s good to know it gets there in the end!

  2. Beautiful blooms and photos. When I had a garden I grew a lot of clematis – there are so many beautiful varieties. I hope you have a gorgeous day. x

    1. Ah yeah, my mum love clematis too. Might get some!

  3. I have a balcony, that I just turned into a little garden. Love how your garden is coming together. It will all be worth it when it’s done!

    1. Thanks Ashanti! It really will!

  4. I love hydrangeas too! I have struggled with mine this year also, I don’t think I trimmed it back least year which was my error!

    1. I think I might’ve trimmed mine back too much!

  5. I bought a a rose bush and a hydrangea this year for my back garden. The rose bush is like a stump right now so i’m super jealous of your first bloom! My hydrangea seems to be dying so we’ve moved it to the from garden. I’ll be keeping an eye on what you do for inspo!
    Great post!

    1. Ah sorry to hear about your hydrangea! Hope it perks up!

  6. Lovely floral inspiration and I like the sound of the roses. Gosh, I don’t think I could choose a favourite flower or plant for that matter. I have done loads of work on our garden over the past ten years, from absolutely nothing to an exciting amalgamation of architectural plants and soft florals. I have been checking out your Insta and know your pain of having hedges out and fences in – worth the pain though!

My hydrangea has been a bit hit and miss over the last few years, but is back to flowing it’s original blue now (the pH of the soil has been changed by the other plants around it) so yours might just need some time.

    1. Aw thanks for the really thoughtful comment! I think I might need to take the hydrangea out of the big pot its in and put it in the ground

      1. You’re welcome. What colour is your Hydrangea usually? If you do want to preserve the colour, you might be best keeping it in a pot (larger one – Wilmslow Garden Centre have some lovely big colourful ones for around £6) but if you’re just looking for it to flower again, the ground will be fine. Of course you can always prep a hole to keep the pH, but it can be added work for not much return.

How is the main work going? I bet you’re looking forward to the finishing line so you can get to the fun bit of planting up.

      2. It was pink when I bought it. It’s in a big pot already but I think ants might’ve raided the pot. I dont mind about the colour really!

      3. Cool, then definitely stick it in the ground. Might be worth chucking down some Diatomaceous Earth to make sure you get rid of any ants/eggs. I hope it enjoys the new home it gets and flowers for you next year 🙂

      4. Aw thanks lovely! You are handy to know!

      5. You’re very welcome, just ask away!

  7. Look at these, simply gorgeous!!! Soooo romantic! Unfortunately don’t have a garden but the ones in Kew do pretty good job as my favourite garden space 😉 Xx

    1. Oh thats great that you get to go to Kew, I dont think I’ve ever been!

I like a bit of wildness in the garden too! My favourite flowers are peonies, roses, hydrangeas, clematis and sweetpea, but I’m a huge fan of sempervivums too (some of which do flower).

    1. Oh we have similar tastes !

  9. Alliums are my favourite! I’ve got a new garden space and have planted lots of new plants. I’m so proud they’re growing, and I’ve not killed them!!

    1. Its such a nice feeling isnt it!

  10. I definitely prefer wilder, more free-spirited gardens to neat manicured flowerbeds.. can’t wait to see how yours evolves Sus! x

    1. Ah thanks Kate! I’ve really got into it this year, more than ever before

  11. So beautiful to be surrounded by flowers! I don’t have a garden, living in a flat! Going almost every day walking to a park near by! Miss a garden of my own!

    1. Yeah I think its good to find a local greenery place when you havent got your own!

  12. David Austen roses are stunning. We have three different ones in our garden. We have quite a structured garden but let the flower beds run wild. It’s a mix that suits me. I can’t wait to see everything when it’s finished x

    1. That does sound like a good mix! Have you done any posts on your garden Rachel?

  13. I’d love to have a beautiful garden full of flowers but I have no hope. I bought some plants a few weeks ago and they were all dead within two days! That’s a record even for me. Good luck with your garden though!

    1. Maybe to was the heatwave!? Dont give up!

  14. We’re lucky that the lady who had our house before us had established a really nice garden and we have some lovely stuff come up each month during spring/summer including poppies, anemones, aquilegia and a hydrangea. We’ve also planted a rhododendron and a few more lavender plants as the bees love them. A garden is a real source of simple joy isn’t it.

    1. Oh that sounds lovely Kat

  15. I’d love to have a little bit of colour in my garden with some flowers. But… the slugs. The slugs eat everything! This year’s mission is to control the slug population. Hopefully next year flowers will be able to grow!

  16. I got a couple rhododendrons this year, I love them! They’ve practically doubled in size since I bought them, too. My David Austen rose has been a bit of a fail this year, I’ve been a bit of a crap plant Mama and forget to give them any plant food – It’s only got one bud on!

    1. Ah thats good to know! Will look into buying

It’s lovely seeing the pretty side of your garden and good to focus on this when you have big work ongoing x
