Studio- the book

If there has ever been something that has made me want to go back to Art School, this book is it.

STUDIO- Creative Spaces for Creative People is the new book by Sally Coulthard and it is full of amazing studios from all over the world. Different types of artists and creatives have opened the doors to where they work, and it is a sight to behold.

From knife makers, to textile designers, to painters and writers this book has inspiration and intrigue on every page.

Each Studio gives away details about the owners personality, what they are inspired by, and clues to their working methods. It is a fascinating look at the creative process.

The book is broke down into three parts; Studio Inspirations, Studio Work and Studio Elements. The latter has a focus on how to create your own space for creativity. The first section breaks down different styles of Studio, for example Collected, Industrial, Bright. The mid section of the book is the type of work that goes on in the Studio- breaking it down into Crafts, Fashion, Art, Workshops and more.

creative studios by artists and designers

This is one of those books that you can open at any page, and just get lost within. The photography is stunning and the way the author Sally breaks down the background and the styles of the Studio really helps this book be more digestible. It could easily become a sprawling thing but the categories and structure make it really accessible, even for non creatives.

I’ve got two copies of this book to giveaway, I just know you are going to love it as much as I do. I think it might be a permanent fixture by my bed or on the coffee table downstairs.

  5. My to do list is huge, but one of the longest running things on it is to actually paint on canvas. I work in an art journal but have never had the courage to actually work on something as “permanent” as canvas.

  6. Love having a nosy at other people’s spaces. My studio is deeply unglamorous, in the windowless garage but it’s ace to have somewhere to screen print so mustn’t grumble!
