Found: the Corner Sofa of my dreams

We’ve been on the look out for a corner sofa for so long.

Literally about two/three years. Finding a corner sofa that suited our budget, taste, size of the room seemed to be impossible. All the ones we liked in style were too big or so small it was pointless changing, and all the ones that had a price we liked, the style just wasn’t us.

We eventually found a corner sofa that we agreed on, but it was a compromise. It was more than we wanted to spend and I thought it was literally going to look like the elephant in the room. So we hesitated. And I’m so glad we did!

We’ve literally stumbled into the sofa of our dreams, in a place I would’ve never thought. A newly opened Furniture Village about ten minutes from our home.

This sofa literally called my name from the window as I walked past with the girls. We went in and the three of us fell in love with it immediately. We just needed the Mister’s opinion now, so he and I went in one morning whilst the girls were both at school. He fell for it too, how could he not?

We were helped by a really lovely lady called Syka in the Cheadle branch, she had the same birthday as the Mister so we all got on like a house on fire. We didn’t feel pressured to buy, she kept it really casual and down to earth. A real credit to the company.

So here it is!

Introducing our new corner sofa! The model is City Loft Corner and the colour is Capri Olive- the exact colour we saw in the shop. And I’m in love.

The shade of green is one of my favourites, the splayed legs give a hint of mid-century, I can lie down completely and there still be room at the end, the high back makes you feel snug and supported and the velvet gives a sense of luxury. Basically my perfect sofa!

Owning a velvet sofa was always a bit of a dream. The girls are now seven and three and are pretty well trained, so we’ve just gone for it. We also got the Guardsman Protect to give us a bit of back up if anything does get spilt or mark the sofa.

Getting our old sofa out of the room was so much harder than getting this new one in too. I don’t know what happens, but whenever D and I come to move furniture, all communication breaks down! Normally we are pretty much in tune with each other, but moving furniture turns us into Barry and Paul from Chucklevision (late 80s early 90s kids TV show).

This corner sofa came in two pieces though and the delivery guys assembled it for us quickly and painlessly. In fact the whole buying process was incredibly smooth, I kept expecting a delay or something- not sure why really! It went like clockwork.

This sofa has completely changed the room for the better, we can all snuggle down as a family and watch a movie. I keep finding the girls reading to each other under a blanket. It feels like we can really relax in here as we are lounging rather than sitting, and it’s bliss.

So a velvet sofa… I’ve become a bit stricter about eating in the living room now to try and protect it… Would you have a velvet sofa?

Furniture Village have a sale on right now too, so if you are in the market for something like this (hell, even the same one because its sooo nice) then do head over and have a look.

  1. Hey Susie! This sofa is stunning! We have also been sofa shopping a lot lately and it’s harder than you think! So many look good but feel uncomfortable ! Or the feel and look great but cost 2-3,000. It’s been really hard! I’m going to find my local store and try these out! Thank you x

  2. It’s absolutely beautiful Sus! I think I’d be open to a velvet sofa but maybe not just yet. Certainly not before potty training ha!
Still love that coffee table btw – your lounge is just gorgeous x

  3. Our current sofa, was a whim buy. Literally, saw it (it was the only one, the shop had),and purchased without much thought. I needed a sofa, that one would do. Now, I appreciate what an investment a sofa is, it is the so much the centre of family living. We spent so much time on the sofa. Ours is battered and bruised and I really want to replace it. Finding that replacement is proving illusive, I’m much more tuned in to what I want and know it will have to last a long time. So I really ‘get’ that long time looking thing, you mention.

I love the colour and I love velvet. Your sofa is really is lovely. Wish I had room enough for a corner sofa. I’ve never thought about furniture village, but will have browse. Thanks for the tip.

  4. I love it! Gorgeous colour and it fits perfectly in that space. I’d love a velvet sofa but we won’t be able to get one until the day that Fudge goes to the big kennel in the sky. Until that sad day, we’re sticking with leather sofas! x

  6. I LOVE your new sofa!! The colour of the velvet is a dead ringer for my own 😉 It’s gorgeous and looks super comfy too! Wish we had the space for an L-shaped sofa but think I’m gonna have to move if I’m ever going to have a room big enough for one. Such a good choice for that space and I adore the rug with it as well! xx

  7. That sofa is LOVELY! I have sofa envy! My sofa is great but it’s way to small. I want to be able stretch out. You made a very good choice.
