Bathroom Update- Behind the Scenes of a Bathroom Renovation

Hey hey hey! I’m back with a bathroom update.

We are at the mid point with the bathroom now and it feels like it is just taking forever… This is the second weekend without a bathroom. Thank goodness for the downstairs loo!

I wanted to show you some photos of how it’s going and how a bathroom remodel looks in real life.

It’s easy to show the before and afters I think, but the bit in between is where all the hard work happens and I’m so glad we didn’t attempt to do this ourselves.

There’s been labyrinth like plumbing work and pipes to contend with, as well as a curious layout of electric supply. Basically it feels like every time the bathroom has been done it has just been patched up and built on from the previous attempt and ripping the whole thing out has never been done properly before. Until now.

As you can see there’s the tiles of my dreams on the wall now- I’ve been obsessed with these underground style tiles ever since I can remember. The non bevelled ones I feel give a more authentic vintage look. These are from Tile Mountain.

Here’s just some of the pipework our builders have had to contend with. This is the thing with old houses, you never truly know what you are getting into until you start doing the work.

We’ve got the bath in too and the beginnings of the shower.  As I’ve mentioned previously, I’m working with local company Bathroom Takeaway, who’ve supplied us with a few of the products we are using in the renovation. The bath is bigger in every way than our old one and I simply CANNOT WAIT to get in it sometime very soon and have a good old soak.

So it is pretty much like living on a building site at the moment and although it is annoying (builders dust everywhere) I feel incredibly happy that we are able to get this work done. It is something we’ve wanted since moving in three years ago.

So I hope that you’ve enjoyed my little bathroom update? I’ll be sharing another work in progress soon and then the big reveal, so stay tuned as I’m sure you’ll love it and I hope it might inspire you, especially if you’ve a small bathroom too.

  1. Oooo it’s going to look fantastic! Nothing beats the new bathroom feeling! Found your post via Twitter…I host a monthly interiors link up called #bloggershomes if you fancy joining in…it would be great to feature you too, when you’re finished the bathroom 🙂 xx

  2. Oh wow, it’s going to be divine! I love that bath and the tiles look great – we’re actually going for similar in our new shower. We have ripped out the entirety of our bathroom this weekend, except the shower which still functions (because we’re DIYing it I think it’s going to take a good few weeks, esp as the husband has decided to go away this weekend with his mates, argh!), and the plumbing we have found (amongst other things) is unbelievable. I am lucky my husband is so good with this kind of stuff, because I think your average plumber would take one look and run screaming! It’s happened in the past!!
But, it is all going to be worth it – like you, I’m just dreaming of a long soak in a beautiful bath in a beautiful room. We are probably going to need it! 😉 xx

    1. And btw, if we could afford it, we’d totally be paying someone else to do it too! We probably should have waited for finances to recover post-wedding, but, well, I’m impatient (and fed up of having a bathroom suite stashed in various places around the house!) x

  3. YAY!
It’s amazing how, even though it looks like we have completely different houses, when you’re renovating a bathroom it looks almost identical! Your pics have taken me right back to when ours was the same, and had pencil scribblings all over the plasterboard. The end is nearing, lovely. Just think of that lovely long bath you’ll get to have soon! xx

  4. It is looking brilliant and I know it is taking some time but just think to that end result.

I hope you go out and buy yourself some special bath treats to use that first week xxxx

I would love your input
